Field Clinic & Fun Day
Pictures are being posted shortly. Until then please read about our Vizsla Fun Day!
This year our VCGNY FunDay held at the Anderson’s in Jeffersonville New York on October 7th. The weather was gorgeous and the day was lots of fun. Although we had a limited group we still had a wonderful time, as did the Vizsla’s.
The day started with breakfast, which was fresh bagels, a variety of cream cheeses, butter and of course a great cup of coffee. Soon after breakfast Les Varga announced it was game time with the Vizsla’s. Our first game was the hot dog find’em and eat’em. Each dog was given a chance to find a small piece of hot dog that was put in a paper bowl. There were 5 bowls in a line. The fastest dog to sniff out and eat the piece of hot dog won a special organic biscuit. I think we had 3 winners, Scout, Josie, and Iceman. The next game was the peanut butter lickin’ contest. The object of the game is to load a spoon up with peanut butter and see which Vizsla licks it clean first. Once again we had 3 winners, Rosie, One of Nancy’s females, and another that I forget (sorry).
The next part of the day was the bird work. We introduced dogs to Quail for the first time. It’s always fun to see a Vizsla play with a quail for the very first time. You get a real appreciation of the natural instinct of a bird dog. The other dogs were paired up and ran a short hunt test with birds. Chet and Tony were bird planters and available to answer any questions the handlers had about their dogs and assist in the bird field. The handlers and Vizsla’s had a great learning experience.
We stopped for lunch, fresh salads, good hot dogs and hamburgers cooked by Chef Chet.
Desserts were plentiful. A raffle concluded the day, some won more than others but it didn’t matter, everyone was a winner. Some of the dogs were given another opportunity to run their dogs inc the field, some just played with the dogs, others just enjoyed the conversation.
Overall it was a great day. The FunDay committee said the day was successful day but could have been even better with more attendees. Hope to see you next year.
