The Vizsla Club of America Spring/Summer Update for 2007

Our winter specialty was held in conjunction with the Garden Specialties Association in Secaucus, NJ in mid February. Our club had well over 100 entries and it was good to see many old friends and also some new faces. VCGNY member, Dot Romano’s daughter, Rachel Murphy was our sweeps judge and traveled from Virginia to oversee our event. Jim Burns adjudicated the regular classes and many of our members did well. Fred Hachtel handled the winner’s dog and best of winners-now Ch Linmar’s Brambles N Brier!

Other news sent by VCGNY club members-

Auburn ’s Red Rustler owned by Pat and Bill Garneau was second in the 6-9month class in sweeps and breed at the GSA specialty.

Quailpoint’s Willorunn Ruffian JH completed her Rally Novice title in February 2007. Lili, as she is known, is owned by Dot Romano and Mary Durham.

Koppertone Jazz’d Up Dorratz CD RA JH VC CGC has scored two senior passes and was winners dog and best of winners at St Petersburn Dog Fanciers Association for two points and winners dog and best of breed the next day for the same kennel club for for two more points. He is owned by Doris and Paul Ratzlaff

Sizzlin Suzu Phalcon’s Joules JH, known as Jolli finished his championship at the New Brunswick shows in March so now he is Champion Jolli. Our congratulations go to owner Susan Nakamura.

Other news-
Longtime club member, Bud McGivern had triple bypass surgery in mid March. Bud is at home and doing well.

Our two hunt tests, held on March 31 st and April 1 st were a success. Our entries totaled 79 spread over the two days. Assunpink is a great place to hold an event and our members did well at this event, too.

Many thanks to chairman, Gary Miller, secretary Florence Duggan, gunners Pete Duggan, Les Varga, Tony Smid, and Bob Samer. Our workers did a wonderful job and we are thankful for their help. Lois Smid handled the paperwork with ease. Pete Prato cooked up a storm and there was no chili left by Sunday. He can compete with Burger King any day because the breakfast sandwiches were superb. Kitchen assistants-Michelle Miller and Donna Prato kept the entrants happy by supplying food with a smile!

Esther Pilkington rode for two days planting birds on both courses and Chet Anderson III, Bill Garneau and Susan Nakamura planted the junior course with ease and enthusiasm.

Our raffle was a success. Thanks to all who contributed wonderful items. We netted our $270 for our club treasury.

Thanks also to our judges, Chet and Nancy Anderson, Tony Smid, Tom Jarnich, Bob Rynkiewicz, Fred Hachtel, and Frank Cavalieri. They really made the entrants feel comfortable and judged in a positive manner.

Our Field Trial weekend April 14 & 15 suffered some major weather problems. So much that the Sunday braces were canceled. Despite those problems Saturday was a big success for many dogs and handlers. The results are posted on the field trial pages along with some pictures.

Chet and Nancy Anderson want to acknowledge all those members who did and outstanding jobs in making it a success. Especially Florence Duggan, Tony and Lois Smid, Gary and Michelle Miller, Pete and Donna Prato, and Joe Quinn. The gunners Pete Duggan, Les Varga, and Jeff Ellis and the bird planter Esther Pilkington. A special thanks to all the judges Tom Jarnich, Dot Romano, Mary Allen, Bob Amato, Gus Alimonos, and Charlie Kissinger. And last but not least anyone who helped make this years event a success that might have been forgotten.

Besides participating and watching these quality bird dogs in action another highlight was the steak dinner that Chef Chet Anderson puts on the table for those who partake in a delicious meal. It’s always great!!! The highlight of the night is the presentation of the John Frayne Memorial trophy to Tony Smid and Sunny Boy who took first place in the Amateur Gun Dog Stake. Congratulations!!!
