Spring/Summer 2006 Update-Vizsla Club of Greater New York

April 2006 was a busy month for the Vizsla Club of Greater New York. Our two field events were held at Assunpink Wildlife Management Area in Clarksburg, NJ.

Our hunt tests were held on April 1 and April 2. Secretary for the event was Florence Duggan and the chair was Gary Miller. We ran 80 dogs over two days and had several club members qualify their dogs. Dorratz Miles Ahead, aka Sadie, received two senior passes. Ch Opus One Arabella, Olympic Rozsa of Opus One, both owned by Elise Wright, and Natasha Prato of Mills Run owned by Donna and Pete Prato each received two junior passes. Onpoints Lady in Red, aka known as Crissy, owned by Nancy and Chet Anderson received a qualifying junior score on Sunday. Because of the large entry, we had to add two senior judges each day. We are grateful to Tony Smid, Tom Jarnich, and Bob Rynkiewicz for filling in. Our thanks also go to Nancy and Chet for judging both days along with Mike Blanchard and Mike Kirkman, and apprentice judge Frank Cavalieri.

This event would not have been so successful without the help of our club members and friends. Thanks to Lois Smid for helping with the secretarial work and the raffle. Huge thanks to our gunners, Pete Duggan, Tony Smid, and Les Varga who had quite a few braces to gun for. The food committee, headed up by master chef, Pete Prato, ably assisted by Donna Prato and Michelle Miller, served up some of the best ever hunt test food. Esther Pilkington willingly planted birds for both courses along with Jim Burns and Dave Young who helped with line marshaling.

Our field trial was held two weeks later at the same location. Chet served as the secretary for the two day trial and Nancy was the chair. We ran 107 dogs efficiently thanks to Michelle and Gary Miller, Esther Pilkington, Jackie Ellis, Dot Romano, Lois and Tony Smid, Joan Heimbach, Peter and Donna Prato, and Elise Wright and Florence Duggan.

Chef Prato, again surprised us with an entirely different menu from the hunt test. I am not sure about the calorie count, but the meals were delicious. Our judges’ steak dinner was prepared by Chet Anderson and was followed by a successful raffle with many nice prizes.

Gunners Jeff Ellis, Les Varga, and Pete Duggan handled the birdfield action well.

Members whose dogs placed were Nancy Anderson’s Hot Wingz, Esther Pilkington’s Edenvale Dorratz Overjoyed, aka Stevie and Elise Wright’s Olympic Rozsa of Opus One and Greg Konan’s October Rust Wicked.

Many thanks to all who contributed to our annual trophy drive. We raised over $1000 which will pay for all of our trophies for the coming year. We are grateful that so many members support the purchase of beautiful trophies for the field trial and our two specialties.

Our specialty will be held at the Lyndhurst Estate in Tarrytown, NY, on September 10, 2006. Sweeps judge is Donna Johnston and the breed judge is Barbara Hannum. Trophies have been purchased and Stan Miller has once again volunteered to prepare our luncheon, but we will need help in setting up the tent, serving the food, and cleaning up. We will also need raffle items and dessert items. Please volunteer to help in some way. Many volunteers make for an easier job for all involved. Lois Smid will be sending out reminders for dessert donations and raffle items shortly.

Nancy and Chet Anderson have volunteered their grounds for a field clinic and fun day to be held on October 7 th. Final plans are not definite yet, but there will be games, a picnic, an opportunity for your dog to work on birds, and a raffle. As soon as plans are definite we will let you know. Nancy will be putting together a flyer with the pertinent information.
